Seeds and sellers

chilliwin(EU DK 7)November 16, 2012

I have been reading this forum since I found it and learning container gardening as much as I can. Before I knew this forum I have already bought chilli seeds. The source of my paid chilli seeds is ebay, I haven't seen anyone recommended to buy seeds from ebay. It makes me worry about my already germinated and growing chilli plants. I do not like to be one of the unfortunate planters who finally realized their plants are not the plants they are expected. Until we got the fruits we cannot complain to the sellers, it has been mentioned by so many gardeners here. I have been doing a kind of experiment of growing hot chillis as a hobby without expending much money and space.

Still now I am looking for reliable seed sellers. Today again I ordered "red ghost and orange fatali" from http://www.pepperseeds.eu/ the seeds are more expensive than the ebays. However I do not know the reliability of this website. Please let me know the reliable chilli seeds sellers on the net. I am interested about their growing guideline, quality of the seeds, cost, packing and the shipping.

Sincerely,

Caelian

Not all eBay sellers are varmints. Who did you buy from?

I bought Mohawk seeds from Ebay. They were great. Easy germination and healthy plants.

Most 'nefarious' ebay sellers will sell until the negative feedback starts hitting months later. When the sales start to dry up due to negative feedback ratings, they simply close the account and start a new one under a different name and begin selling again.

Also, don't be afraid to ask on this list. Many members have harvested and saved more seed than they will use and are more than happy to share. Most will send you seed for nothing more than a self addressed, stamped envelope. But, unless the seed was taken from isolated plants, you could wind up with a cross but that is relatively rare. Much rarer than getting bogus seed from an ebay seller anyway. And it is essentially free.

Also, wow...I cannot believe there's still a market for pepper seeds valued as if a pepper produces 2-3 seeds per pod and harvested on an inaccessible mountain top.

Chileplants.com has recently (today actually) been very educational for me in the realm of myriads of chile plants. I love their search option column on the left that enables you to instantly search by species, heat level, season, pod type, color, plant size, etc.

Their website is very helpful and user friendly in helping you to make selctions, don't know what sort of rep they have though.
