Propagation - Rosa Rugosa

jorankinJune 9, 2009

I will be moving from my home in the very near future.

Attempted to uproot some of the smaller plants but the root system is just too deep and difficult and I just broke off the root trying.

If I just clip some of the branches how would you suggest they get rooted.

I would just love to get several pieces going for transplanting later in the year.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

wait until bloom is finished, then harvest semi ripe cuttings, and root them in peat based fertilizer free potting medium with some sand mixed in. I find it easiest to root indoors under fluorescent light, 16 hours on, 8 hours off. Google search for George Mander and Cheryl Netter for tips, also

I would suggest, if you don't already have one, a solid steel shovel....blade and handle....mine can uproot just about anything

It should root easily from cuttings. Check out to see a nearly fool-proof method for propagating roses from cuttings.

You should be able to just cut the roots that are too deep to come up. Place the bush into a bucket of water so most of the roots are submerged. You can transport the bush and bucket to the new location. Your bush should be just fine for several days in the water.
