I've noticed some of my squash is getting powdery mold. What's the best approach/attack for this?!
Oops - sorry. Shoulda read the 'disease in the garden' thread before I posted!
So sounds like spraying with a copper spray and cutting leaves off is about the best/only way to deal with it, as well as hoping for the best!
Hope that works - have pumpkins, sphagetti squash, zuchini, yellow squash, and some gourds that I'd love to keep going. Have lots of the sphagetti and a couple of the zuchinni and yellow - none of the pumpkins or gourds yet.
Mildew is why I put in a 2nd planting of summer squash about the 1st of July, Marj. If the older plants that went in about 5 weeks before can't handle the mildew it isn't such a disaster.
The younger plants may have mildew but those plants can keep on, keeping on while the others fade or are pulled.
There may be a potassium bicarbonate fungicide in your garden center that you may want to try. I believe that is also an organic spray.
