Climber into a large shrub

Question - can a climbing rose, such as 'Fourth of July' be shaped into a large shrub rose, rather than a climber?

As long as you don't provide it support so it has to thicken its canes to support itself and you prune the dickens out of it, usually, yes, you can train many climbers to be self standing. Fourth of July is stiff enough I would imagine you should be able to do what you want. It's going to probably have to be a large shrub if you want any flowers as this rose wants to be BIG. Kim
