Black Star and Laurentii

lovingmy4babies(7)March 18, 2010

It looks like I've lucked up and found a S. Black Star and S. Laurentii at Lowe's today :) I originally went in for something else entirely, but I couldn't resist these two plants. They are both growing out of their containers and pushing them out of shape, and there are pups in with each plant. I was lucky enough to find them without much scarring or broken leaves, which is unusual for Lowe's, at least here. I'll post pictures tomorrow, as soon as I get some put on the comp.

I've never heard of S.'Black Star' I wonder where it came from, or where Low's purchased the plant, who was the grower? So many are being tissue cultured, so I just wonder Japan or Thailand? Or is it just a name change of of plant we already have. Norma

I also recently purchased a plant labeled Black Star. I was wondering if that was a valid name...Mine is dark green with "butter cream" edges. Regardless of what it is called, it's one I didn't have like this, so I'm happy.

Here is a link that might be useful:

This Sansevieria appears to me to be a Futura form of S. t. 'compacta'. I think its a great looker especially when it fills a pot.

I did some web searching and found this plant listed at the websites for Stokes Tropicals and Logees. I also found it listed at:

It could be San. tri. 'Compacta' which is a recognized and listed name? Norma

Could it possibly be Jade Dwarf Marginated?
