One of the best perennials in my garden, Salvia nemorosa 'Marcus'. Dwarf-growing seedling of 'East Friesland'. No flopping on this one. I currently have eleven specimens of this great little salvia.
Are these plants you collected seed of and planted, or volunteers? East Friesland is sterile, but if related nemerosa or superba forms are nearby, a few viable seeds of crosses can be produced.
Hey, you're right ... East Friesland is sterile. I have no idea why 'Marcus' was marketed as a seedling of it. All eleven of my specimens were purchased locally from garden centers in one gallon containers (Calloways, Lowes, & Wal-Mart).
Will Marcus rebloom if deadhead like East Friesland? My East Friesland has been a great rebloomer?
I like it too. I planted my first salvias last year and have been pleased with Marcus. I did get a long tall shoot that was about 15-20" long off the side of it but I decided that another salvia seed had gotten in the pot. I'll transplant one day and see if it's separate.
gfish, yes, 'Marcus' reblooms like crazy. I have not even had to deadhead it. If you like 'East Friesland', you will love 'Marcus'.
alyrics, cool, you got a two-for.
