hyacinth seeds?

Hollywog(z7soIL)March 10, 2005

I bought a hyacinth flower (already in bloom) at a Lowe's because I couldn't resist the wonderful spring smell of it. (To me, that smell IS spring!!) It is dying back now, and I intend to plant it in the ground later in the month, but I noticed that inside the throat of each one of the tiny flowers on the stem there is a little green pod that looks like a seed. Is it? Or can you only propogate a hyacinth from a bulb?

im not sure but i think you can grow it from seed but it takes a long time to achieve blooms.

the flowers will form seeds which will produce a plant with a bulb eventually. It will probably take a few years, but just put them where they can do their thing and you'll have more hyacinths in a few years.
