odd Salvia Greggii ... two flower colors!

SueinNMJune 12, 2014

I have no idea how to look this up, but I have a S. greggii volunteer that literally has two completely different color flowers! One is a bright violet, the other a soft coral. They're growing out of the same plant. Could two plants have been splice accidentally? Does this happen in nature?

Can you posy a digital image?

A plant of Silvia microphylla Wild Watermelon at the J C Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, NC has a branch with darker than normal flowers. I took a cutting to experiment with, and it s stable, with its shoots producing similar dark flowers.

Is your greggii a named variety?
