a few questions: clematis, crocosmia, and annual phlox

Hollywog(z7soIL)July 5, 2006

Hey guys, I've been doing this a couple of years now, but with new plants come new questions!

1. How will I know when the seeds on my clematis vines are ready to harvest? Right now they are still furry and white.

2. Will George Davidson Crocosmia come true from seed (its the only crocosmia in my garden that bloomed)?

3. What do the seed pods on annual phlox look like and are they easy or difficult to collect?

Thanks for any help/advice you can give!

For the phlox, they appear as a little ball, under a 1/4" in diameter, but not tiny. There should be about 4 seeds in each. I harvest them when they turn tan, the seeds should be dark gray/black - not tan/white. I pick the entire head with multiple seed pods then place in a paper bag. Within a day they all burst in the bag.
