Caradonna is disappointing

esther_bSeptember 25, 2011

I have 5 Caradonna salvia plants in a row in my garden. I don't think they give much bang for the space they occupy in the garden. They crowd out other shorter plants and their flower spikes are not as showy as I thought they'd be. I deadhead them and only get a few more flowering spikes for the effort. They are kept moist, well-fertilized, and receive sufficient light to grow like weeds. Is there a better variety of perennial salvia which has lusher flowers and less invasive tendencies?

Are you certain that you have the real Caradonna? This is never invasive. Could it be that you are over-fertilising it? This type of Salvia thrives in poor soils.
