Mold transmission through seeds?

mary14889(4)September 30, 2011

I would like to share seeds of a neat squash that came up in my garden, but my cucurbit patch is plagued with powdery mildew. Can it be transmitted through seeds? I don't want to transmit it to another location, especially a friend's garden. Thanks.

Hi Mary,
No you don't need to worry about it. Powder Mildew is a fungus that rears its ugly head in the right weather conditions. It won't affect the seeds. If it was a virus, that would be another story.

Hi Remy,

Thanks for your reply. I'm just back on garden web. I got the same answer from a university extension specialist, so I shared my seeds with my friend. Thanks again.
