Hi all! My name is Shell and I live in southern end of central, ca. I'm active on the garden junk forum, but this is my first post here. I have a question. What are some shade loving climbers?

Decumaria barbara does fine in the shade.

A few of the best shade loving climbers are
Climbing Hydrangea, but it is slow to grow. You may also try Dutchman's Pipe, a strange but interesting vine.
Some of the new Clematis will grow in part shade. Are you looking for a perennial vine or an annual vine?
There are some lovely annual vine that will grow for you, everlasting sweet pea is a perennial that will give you color but no scent. Morning Glories will also grow, in part shade, get the blue one, it is quite striking.

Hydrangea anomola var. petiolaris, H. seemanii, H. integrifolia - climbing hydrangeas
Schizophragma hydrangeoides - Japanese climbing hydrangea
Clematis armandii - evergreen clematis
Akebia quinata - Chocolate vine
Actinidia kolomitka - Arctic kiwi (male is variegated, very cool!)
Holboellia coriacea - China Blue vine (odd, blue sausage-looking fruit)
Ficus pumila - creeping fig
Parthenocissus species - Boston Ivy/Virginia Creeper

all should be hardy in zone 9, although the creeping fig will not like extended periods of frost
