When do I give up on my hibiscus?

heidiho(St. Martinville, La. Zn.8)April 27, 2010

I bought 2 hibiscus last year at Home Depot. One is in twisted tree form and the other is a bush. They are both in BIG pots but have died out over the winter due to 30 & 40* weather. I pulled them in a shed during freezing weather but they are very bare. No new leaves and I've had them outdoors for a couple of months now; feeding and watering them.

When should I give up and just throw them away? Is there a chance that they will come back? Don't want to give up if there is a chance for blooms.

Thanks for your time and have a nice day.

Have you taken a small scraping of the trunks? If it has any green there it should come back. I have only saved one which I gave upon. When I pruned it back to the ground I found a couple leaves popping up from the soil. If nothing else is green you may cut it back to the ground and just want and see.
