Vine for shaded fence

karin1(Scappoose, OR)September 15, 2008

We have an "ugly" fence separating our duplex from our neighbor, and am asking for suggestions as to possible vines that would work: shaded yard, many trees, not very deep, with little sunlight hitting the proposed area. Any thoughts would be appreciated

We have a cleamtis bush that gets mostly shade due to northern exposure; it spreads wuickly, and "vines" up the deck railing and would spread more if allowed. It also blooms with cool purple flowers.

How about a climbing hydrangea? I'm not sure if it will work in your zone, but it does where I live in zone 5+.

Virginia Creeper and Boston Ivy are good for a shaded or part sun area. I have just planted some in a similar situation myself.

A little bit of morning sun or dappled sunlight is ideal.Fast growing and great fall colours.
