Is this St. Augustine or a Weed

SHD1244April 14, 2013

My backyard isn't must to speak of but I have planted seed over the years. I have several patches of this grass/weed in my backyard but there are SO many weeds that I am not even sure what I have in the way of grass...

This "looks" like St. Augustine (aka: Charleston Grass as we call it in the south) but I really don't know...

St. Augustine or Weed ???

Looks to me like tall fescue, improved version.
It's gonna die if you cut it that short all the time.

i think it's a weed. it is in my yard. it grows in clumps like starbursts rather than a spreading grass. i pull it up so the augustine can spread in

Another vote for Fescue. It's absolutely not St. Augustine. What kind of permanent grass do you want and what do you have? What kind of seed are you using?

Off topic....you sure do need to sharpen the blades on your mower, or buy new ones. Grass blades should be cut sharply, not shredded.
