Plant Spacing

eastpenna(6b)February 19, 2013

This will be my first year doing a SFG and could use some help with plant spacing. I have read Mel's book and still have a couple of questions. The three plants in question are as follows:

1. Bush String Beans - book says 9 per square, seed pack says to sow 3" apart then thin to 6"

2. Peas - book says 8 per square, seed pack says sow 2" apart then thin to 6"

3. Spinach - book says 9 per square, seed pack says sow 2" apart and thin to 6"

The seed thin to numbers, and the book spacing don't add up.

Any help from those who have experience with these plants in a SFG would be greatly appreciated.

Bush beans should be at 9 per square, spinach is the same thing. Peas are 8 per square. I'm pretty sure I have pictures of all on my website

Mel's method is more intense with more fertile soil and can manage the numbers he gives, so go with it. Its a wholly different way of gardening than those figured on the packets..
