I have an idea and don't know if it will work. I am burdened with these ugly clothes-line poles in my yard. Your basic T, about 36" wide at the top, about 6' tall. One is in full sun. Last year build a little box, about 2 feet square, at the base of it, ran strings down it, filled it with compost and planted some scarlet runner beans. They got neglected and didn't do so well, but I like the idea of growing something there.
I was wondering if I were to get some nylon trellis stuff and "tent" it over the post, fastening it down to either side of the box, could I plant 2-4 cantaloupes in the box? Would it grow up thru and climb the trellis? Or would it just spill all over the yard.
