Millettia reticulate (evergreen wisteria)

amyta(z8 mid GA)August 29, 2009

I have this growing on a trellis-like box which covers my utility box. This box is about 4 feet square. The vine is doing wonderfully but is too big for that space and I have to cut it back almost every week. It has also become very large and woody. Can anyone recommend a smaller vine to camouflage this box? I don't want annuals or one that would spring up everywhere in my yard. Thanks so much.

How about a mounding shrub? Winter jasmine (Lonicera nudiflorum), dusty zenobia (Zenobia pulverulenta), slow-growing Alexandrian laurel (Danae racemosa) or showy jasmine (Jasminum floridum) that have sprawling stems that can lay atop the box while being planted 18" from it?

Some of the non-invasive honeysuckles would likely work, but these are smaller, rarer species: Lonicera flava, Lonicera nitida.
