I recently purchased a plant marked teatime hibiscus. Turns out it's a cotton plant. How can I overwinter this plant?
Either save some seeds or bring the plant into your garage (as long as it doesn't get below 32 in there).
Do you mean that your Hibiscus sabdariffa is actually a plain ol' cotton plant? I'm curious as to 'wot happened?'
How do you know it's a cotton plant? Did it get cotton bolls? There are other hibiscus that look like cotton, but aren't.
I had no idea cotton was a hibiscus.
Virginian, cotton is not a hibiscus, but is a member of the same family, Malvaceae. Cotton belongs to another plant genus (Gossypium). There are quite a few similarities within the family, and I can see how it would be easy to get mixed up....though the chances of coming across plain ol' cotton at a garden center seems a little remote.
I doubt it's plain old cotton. Isn't it against the law to grow cotton as a garden plant?? Something about the controll of the Weavel infestation or some sort of problem. I remember reading something about it at the local farm seed store, in Alabama.
I hope it's not illegal:) I think it's pretty starnge that I wound up woth a cotton plant instead f a Hibiscus.LOL
