Single Stem Tomatoes?

eastpenna(6b)June 19, 2013

When I planted my tomatoes I did one every other square, now they are growing good but I was wondering if I should leave them single stem? Or allow one sucker on each plant to grow? How many tomatoes can I expect from one single stem Early Girl Plant? Will allowing one sucker double it's production?

Thanks, Dave

I let mine get more than one stem. It's difficult to predict how much of a crop you will get from a plant because so many variables are involved - fertilizer, temperature, etc.

That being said, you definitely will get more tomatoes from two stems than one. I have heard that you will get larger tomatoes from a single-stemmed plant, but I can't speak from personal experience.
