tomatoes shading zucchinis

holldoll777June 6, 2009

When I planted my garden, I didn't think about the tomatoes getting over 5' tall! My tomatoes are planted in front of my zucchinis, but on a level 4' shorter than the zukes. They are all facing southwest. Is this going to be a problem? Is there something I can/should do about it? My tomatoes seem to be growing about 4" a day!

Here's a picture to make it a little easier to understand what I'm talking about. You can just barely see the zucchinis sticking up over the wall, now they are HUGE and so are the tomatoes!

It's a problem. Learn from it and don't do it next year. You'll still get zukes but not the neighbor-avoiding amount normally.

If that's all, I can handle it. A few friends and I planted coordinating gardens, so I'm sure I'll be able to get some zukes from them if I want some. I've picked 3 in the last two days, so I think I have a while until they are REALLY shaded.
