Jalapeno Thief

I have a jalapeno plant that had several peppers one day and only a few the next. Those few dwindled down to one lonely pepper.

I have an enclosed backyard so I don't think it's a hungry human neighbor but I can't imagine what animal would come back for seconds and leave nothing behind -- no discarded pepper, no broken plants, nothing.

I'm ok with a few less jalapenos but I'm worried about my bell peppers.

Has anyone been through this? Who could the culprit be?

My guess would be some kind of bird. Many bird species LOVE peppers, including hot peppers. Our pet parrot feasts on the peppers we give him when we have more than we can handle from the garden, and I know that many wild birds also enjoy them.
