young green fruit turning black on bottom

lkraft202(Midwest)June 17, 2005

My young green Early Girl's are turning black on the bottom. I've had a bit of leaf curling due to cool damp weather, could this be the cause? I see no evidence of pests, nor are the affected fruits 'sitting' on anything.

Ideas please?

Could be blossom end rot (BER) based on your description. Suggest you go to the Tomato Problem Solver and take a look at the disorders of green tomato fruits page.

And if it is BER, which it sounds like, it's a physiological problem not an infectious one.

Go the FAQ link at the top of the main tomato forum and read the FAQ about BER that's written there which I"m sure will help.
