Tomato "half eaten" or disease when close to ripe

JohanKnavenJuly 28, 2014

We had a good 1st crop of ACE and EARLY GIRL tomatoes about 1 1/2 months ago, in large containers. Mulched with redwood bark for summer heat and added a little lime. Lots of growth since but every tomato has a huge chunk missing right before we are about to pick. We have some squirrels in yard but haven't seen any near the tomato plants. No blossom end rot. Have no clue if this is a disease, watering or animal problem. (Water on drip - 2 gallons each container a day) Photo attached. Thanks.

Perhaps roof rats.

I believe that's a squirrel bite in the one you are holding. They like to take one bite and then leave. Some say its for the water.
