Spacing for Shallots? Same as Garlic???

Sue__WA(8 WA)September 23, 2008

I can't find this in Mel's book or online. Does anyone have experience with this?

Since shallots are multiplier onions, I was thinking 2 per square foot, at an angle.

Thanks ahead, Sue

Sue, I was hoping someone more knowledgeable than I would answer this for you. I have never grown shallots until a neighbor gave me some this year, and I put them in four to a square. From what I could find, the suggested row spacing was 6".

I've grown them 6" apart with great results. Two per foot will leave you with rather sparse soil coverage. Have fun, shallots are addictive!
