Seed saving question

Creek-side(5)January 30, 2013

I know there are lots of sources for this information, but I don't have time to research. My question is just this: Can I plant all these varieties right next to each other, save the seeds from the non-hybrids, and then grow all the non-hybrids from those seeds the following year?

Sun sugar
Early girl
Djena Lee's Golden Girl
Brandywine
Black Krim
Cherokee Purple
Opalka
Green Zebra
San Marzano Redorta

There is a FAQ on cross pollination that answers your question directly and specifically. Worth reading.

Wow. Thanks. Do you happen to know if there is one for peppers?

Creek-side, you'll be interested the FAQs on the Seed Saving forum. Here's how to save pepper seeds. Unfortunately, it doesn't address the issue of cross-pollination:

Here are a couple of FAQs from the Hot Pepper forum:
Which Peppers Will Cross-Pollinate?
If I Plant a Habanero Next to My Banana Pepper, Will I Get a Hot Banana Pepper?

Do a Search on the Hot Pepper forum for prevent cross-pollination and take a look at those threads.

Great FAQ. I'm going to have to bag a few this year since I've had cross-pollination in the past and it wasn't a fortuitous cross. Thanks.
