Perennial Vegetable Bed
We are starting our Square Foot Gardening experiment by building 2 4x8 beds this year. I've been playing around w/ my ideas about how I want to lay it out and I was thinking about making one bed a Perennial bed growing Asparagus, Radicchio, maybe garlic as a perennial.
The other bed would be our sole "Annual Bed" for the first year and I would decide on a few plants to try out there.
The idea would be that we would expand by adding an additional two beds the following year once we got our feet wet. From that point on we would probably do a kind of crop rotation with the 3 annual beds and still keep only one perennial bed.
I know that much of this depends on what we want to eat but, as a family of 2 potentially growing to 3 is this something people would consider a workable strategy?
