What plant is growing from roots of Euonymus Standard

StephyB(5b/Ontario)June 22, 2012

I have a Euonymus Standard (about 15+ years old) that has died off. The trunk cracked a bit last year, it started leaning to one side and then the top died over the winter. I have no idea why. I have not yet dug it up but there are shoots coming up from the root that are not euonymus (and wouldn't be since this would have been grafted onto another plant).

My question is - what kind of plant/tree would a euonymus usually be grafted on to? Is there any use in letting these grow, or should I dig it all up?
