Pl. help identify fragrant shrub in Italy

green_fingersMay 31, 2006

I just got back from northern Italy (Milan, Lake Como, Trieste...). I saw this (woody?) shrub everywhere with a fantastic jasmine-like fragrance that u could smell from several feet away. The leaves were glossy, almost like gardenia, but the flowers were small like jasmine. I know I should have asked a native and now I have this bee buzzing in my bonnet.

Appreciate ur pointers.

Any chance you have a photo that you can post?

The plant you saw is probably Trachelospermum jasminoides- widely grown throughout Italy as a wall climber. Best wishes Adam
