Prepping a bed for tropicals? On a slope?

GeeDaveyJanuary 23, 2011

I've grown some tropicals from bulbs/corms/tubers before, but I'm planning a more significant tropical vignette with a water feature.

The water feature is small, just some kind of flowering fountain, and I'll be planting Elephant ears, Canna, probably a musa and some other stuff.

Most tropicals like wet feet, or at least damp. I do have a sprinkler system, so it won't dry out. but it is on a slope, and I wondered if anyone preps a tropical bed differently? Especially if there is a slope?

I know you can bury buckets in the ground etc... Is this worth it?

And if you want to suggest great tropicals please do!

You will need to amend the beds with as much organic matter as possible: horse manure, leaf gro, etc.
