Murraya Paniculata

juanh(9)April 3, 2009

Hello,

I've been readinig about Murraya Paniculata (orange jasmine), and would like to know if I can grow this plant outdoors in my area (zone 9b, Fremont, CA) which could dip into the high 20's during winter. Has anyone had any experience growing this plant outdoors in the San Francisco Bay area?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Juan

My Mom has a house in West Palm, FL and has an orange jasmine hedge. It very rarely dips into the 30's there but even when it has the MP does fine. The low temps might damage the new growth but I doubt it will kill it.

Juan... take a look at the map on page 2 of this link. Looks like your area is good!

Thansk a lot for your input.

Some of the information that I've read about this plant indicates that it's suitable for zones 10-11, and since my zone is borderline, I wanted to check if anyone has any experience growing this plant outdoors in zone 9b?

Dave's Garden lists the zones for MP as 9b and warmer

I just picked up a couple of 1G plants that I managed to find in a local nursery. The plant description for the area indicates half hardy to 32 degrees, so it probably will not do very well outdoors over winter. Therefore, I'm going to plant them in containers, and brind them indoors when temperatures start to near freezing.
