I have been looking for an early tomato to try a Wall-O-Water on. If you were to choose between these varieties which would you choose. I will probably grow two varieties.
Siletz, Fourth of July, Stupice, Matina, Mountain Princess.
Thanks Dave, I generally just buy the Southern tomatoes when they come in at the fresh vegetable stands. By the time I buy all the stuff to get an early tomato I could buy a lot of tomatoes.
Siletz is a lot bigger fruit than the others but is pretty bland and watery.(Three-Four foot tall Det) Fourth of July are very small but numerous with so-so taste. (INDET) Stupice is about 4 foot tall with small tomatoes and ho-hum taste. (DET) Matina by far the best tasting of this bunch but I'd never call it an early variety. More mid-season here compared to the other three. Small tomatoes but productive. (INDET) I've grown all 4 above at least three seasons.
If you are WOW'ing you are looking for FASTEST to mature I am assuming? Then it's Stupice. Taste is OK for an early. Faster to mature and tastier than Early Girl. 4th of July and Siletz will likely be about a week behind maturing plus 4th of July grows monster size INDET plants where Stupice will behave better in your WOW. (I have grown Stupice, Kotlas, Moskvich, 4th of July and Siletz in WOW's before) I'd save Matina for regular planting out because it's the slowest (But best tasting) of the bunch. Again, I don't know Mountain Princess at all. Have fun with it! Add a few drops of bleach in each tube to prevent algae...:)
I got an Early Girl (50 day) in pot now with a Water Wall around it now. Planted first week of February and the top is already coming out of top of Water Wall. Growing completely organic. Of the ones you list I have only tried the Forth of July. I can't say much about it as I grew in garden last year and last year was bad here as we had nearly 2 months of over 100 deg temps here and most everything except my Mortgage Lifters, Cherokee Purples, and Amish Paste burned up. I like the Early Girl for being early and seems to taste ok. For eaters I like the Brandywine and Cherokee Purple are good.
I have been growing Kimberley instead of 4th of July, which I grew for years, because it is OP. This year I am back to 4th by request(I have some friends who evidently love them). 4th is pretty early here and I think the taste is pretty good. You can't beat it for long term production. It is generally the last in the garden if left alone and not pulled for something else.
JMO,
Tom
Of those choices I'd pick Matina.

Don't have experience with Mountain Princess.

Then what would you plant big daddy? I can get some early girl at the local stores. I just want to try them on a wall-o-water.

Given those choices, I will always choose Mountain Princess!
It's a vigorous Determinate and can produce fruits up to 8oz though most are 4-6oz unless they are on drip.
I grew Stupice last year and loved it. It was super early and it tasted OK. Perfect for salads and taking it in your lunch.
