Virginia is for Lovers

Ken Cuccinelli fibs! He claims his position on Virginia's Sodomy law is to protect children.
That law is about sodomy & is quite specific in it's wording it's about oral or anal sex for those married or not between heterosexual or homosexuals
He fibs here making it seem that it's really only about those homosexual's engaging in something he would need a thesaurus in order to be polite.

Ken Cuccinelli is one of the only elected officials in America who believes that being gay should result in criminal prosecution and jail time. Cuccinelli's refusal to support a mainstream legislative update to Virginia laws reflects his extreme agenda and uncompromising approach." says his opponent & his opponent is right.!

The idiot fibs, he does not try to change age of consent laws in Virginia he tries to hide his agenda by maintaining his defense of a Crimes Against Nature Law. (sodomy)
He fibs when he says it does not affect private acts between married consenting adults.

When a bipartisan group of state Senators was trying to fix the sodomy law so that it would only apply to cases involving minors and non-consensual sex Cuccinelli voted against it Cuccinelli, then a state Senator, blocked the effort. And in 2009, Andy Kroll noted, Cuccinelli made clear that he objected to oral and anal sex (at least between gay people) on principle, telling the Virginian-Pilot, "My view is that homosexual acts"not homosexuality, but homosexual acts"are wrong. They're intrinsically wrong. And I think in a natural law-based country it's appropriate to have policies that reflect that...They don't comport with natural law."change in the law which would have changed it to permit
Tacky as they are those Honeymoon Hotels with their heart shaped tubs should be called the FELONY ARMS or The FELONY INN with this cretin.

Our Supreme Court struck down Sodomy Laws in Lawrence vs Texas yet many states leave the laws on their books.

Cuccinelli can be so certain on certain things. A little less clear, like his cohort, Governor Ultrasound McDonnell, on recognizing the folly of accepting donations, vacation house flings, and gifts from Johnny R. Williams, Sr. of the tobacco based dietary supplement fame. "I didn't know they were gifts" is pretty lame... sorta like Cuccinelli himself.

Have read McDonnell has "winced" at some of Cuccinelli's stances - but for no other reason than they bring unwanted notoriety to the state. The Governor was more than capable of bringing unwanted notoriety without any help.

Glad I dont live there though, my new home of residence has had enough lying screwballs working it to keep my astonished disgust rolling for a very long time.

I saw this bit of "news" floating about yesterday, and I thought, "and yet another moron surfaces"...

Homophobes are reaching far to grasp at those straws, aren't they?

Pedophilia has nothing to do with homosexuality... another fact bypassed in order to carry forward their dogma loaded agenda.

When I read threads like this, I am so grateful that I live in a state where sanity prevails. There are more progressives than regressives and those regressives elected aren't nearly as nuts as the ones in AZ, OK, KS, VA, NC, SC, GA, FL, etc. We had one, in the 1990's that was the Republican candidate for governor (she won the nomination in the Republican party which was composed of more religious right-wing whackos than sane people). She promised to govern WA according to the Bible. It also came up that she would let her husband have the last word since wives must be subservient to their husbands. She lost, 2-1. That was a wake-up call to the rest of the Republicans, I guess. Candidates for governor, since then, have been more mainstream Republicans but still swallowing some tea on occasion. We had one Republican, 4 years ago, runninng for nomination to the Senate, railing about government subsidies, until it was discovered that he had received over a quarter-million dollars in farm subsidies (sounds a lot like Michele Bachmann). He then pledged not to take any more in the future. Needless to say, even Republicans saw how ridiculous he was and that he wouldn't win so he didn't win in the primary. He has since run for two other elective offices in the state and has lost in each race.

Now, if only the rest of these nut-case voters in the red states would realize where these nut-case candidates will ultimately take them (to oblivion), this country wouldn't be such a laughing stock to the Western world.

Yes, Cuccinelli, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and all the others that give my former state a bad name. In reality, Virginia is evolving from red to purple to blue, in recent years. We do have some decent statesmen: former governor Tim Kaine, and James Webb. On the whole Virginia tends to be moderate, despite a few extremists who make a lot of noise. Virginia is NOT Texas, thank heavens....

If the actions of the governor, his wife, and the AG are any indication, Virginia is for losers.

But, the citizens of Virginia voted for these turkeys, and they got what they deserve in a governor.

Here it is... I knew I saw it somewhere.

"Virginia Republican Gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli is now obsessed with oral sex in addition to his obsession with anal sex. Apparently he wants to spy on everyoneâÂÂs bedrooms and arrest people who engage in either legal act, even if they are married couples.

Cuccinelli unveiled a new website on Wednesday dedicated to his cause of forever banning consenting adults from having oral and anal sex in the privacy of their bedrooms.

His goal is âÂÂto reinstate VirginiaâÂÂs unconstitutional Crimes Against Nature law,â ThinkProgress reports. âÂÂThe rule, which makes felons out of even consenting married couples who engage in oral or anal sex in the privacy of their own homes, was struck down by federal courts after Cuccinelli blocked efforts to bring it in line with the Supreme CourtâÂÂs 2003 Lawrence v. Texas ruling.â That ruling struck down laws that intrude upon the personal and private lives of consenting adults. In other words, it is unconstitutional to arrest people for engaging in private sexual acts."

"One has to wonder how Cuccellini knows so much about âÂÂcarnal knowledgeâ and why he is so obsessed with it."

"This is what the Republican Party has turned into. The once proud party of small government and privacy now wants to use government to literally regulate what Americans do in their bedrooms, and there is a fundamental reason why. ItâÂÂs called religious extremism."

Terry McAuliffe is Cuchicoo's opponent for the Va Gov election this fall. If Terry beats Cuchicoo then it could signal the beginning of the end for the GOP. Terry would normally be rejected by Va as being an ultra lib but nowadaze he appears moderate as compared to the GOP numbskulls in office. The GOP's Lt Gov candidate is an idiot too. They may prefer morons running things in Tx but not here so much.
Still love Va no matter who is in charge.

Cuccinelli personally redesigned the Virginia state seal to cover the exposed breast of the goddess Virtu. She's sporting a full breastplate now.

"Sic semper tyrannis" indeed. This guy and the pick for his running mate, Bishop E.W. Jackson, Sr., are two more that prove that in America anyone is free to grow up to be an idiot.

Oh, my... for real? What is with this obsession? It's unhealthy, I tell ya!

Can you even imagine how large government would need to grow to effectively contain and control the private acts of every citizen? Good grief! There'd be a prison on every corner!

Although, those who invest in this sort of "specialty real estate" would be grinning from ear to ear...

And the far right wants "less government", except when they become the thought police. 1984 lives in the hearts and minds of the far right in Virginia, doesn't it.

I can't help but think that if you don't want to see something... don't look!

It's reminiscent of Pat Robertson and his negative exclamation regarding gay couples kissing... stop searching for gay couples kissing, Pat! That would be my advice!

Good grief!

It's very strange, Mom... the far right want to control morality and thought, abstract notions... but they're perfectly okay with the concrete ideas of no environmental regulation, and no regulation on financial matters or other things that affect real people. Makes no logical sense to me.

There is a precedent for this foolishness. The "Spirit of Justice" in the DOJ's Great Hall was draped to the tune of $8k way back when. Former A G Edwin Meese released a report on pornography in the 1980s... lots of photos with Meece lofting the report with the partially nude female statue directly behind him. (photographers' dream!) It took until the Ashcroft years to purchase the drapes.

My conclusion is some in the GOP hate art. Such philistines.

Let's hope McAuliffe will turn over a new leaf and the GOP will RIP in the near future. I don't understand the aversion to the nude human form, tastefully and artfully displayed.

Aren't we considered all created in "His" image? Why is it filthy or taboo in human form?

I suppose one person's trash is another's treasure, but what's with the draconian need to control what everyone sees, thinks, does, or feels?

Only in Northern VA and maybe Charlottesville. Roanoke and Norfolk are overrun with religious wingnuts, don't expect much change there, sooner or later. You won't see much change in the rural areas of VA, either, they HATE the people in Northern VA.

mom, I lived in VA for well over 25 years. You are wrong about Norfolk. I commuted to that city for many years and got to know the thriving downtown areas, the "Ghent" neighborhoods, the Tidewater Ballet contigent, the artsy neighborhoods where the Naro theatre flourished, along with independent bookstores and coffee houses, etc. There is a plethora of interesting ethnic restaurants in downtown Norfolk, as well as a thriving gay community.

I am also familiar with Roanoke, as I graduated from Hollins University. There is also Roanoke University, and a renovated downtown area that used to be backwards. Wherever there is a strong academic influence, there will be found liberal and artistic tendencies within the community. This is true of Roanoke, Norfolk, Hampton, and Newport News.

Having relocated to SC, I have become well aware of the vast differences in cultures. I have hope for VA's future, as its pendulum, in its history, has always swung back towards moderation.

I don't know if this fits in here or not, but I thought it rather interesting...

Amid the nonstop shrinkage of the Republican party due to alienation, GOP Chair Priebus has some rather... ahem... interesting words for his followers...

âÂÂChristians and pastors and everyone in between should agree that our principles have to be draped in the concepts of grace, love and respect and thatâÂÂs not code language. ThatâÂÂs the New Testament so I donâÂÂt think there should be any problem with that thinking in our party.âÂÂ

âÂÂI happen to believe that our principles are sound. I do believe, and I still will tell you that our party believes that marriage is between one man and one woman. Our party believes that life begins at conception.âÂÂ

"...what you will see is a party that embraces life, a party that embraces marriage and a chairman that understands that thereâÂÂs only one sovereign God and that we ultimately arenâÂÂt dependent on what happens in politics.âÂÂ

And with those words, Priebus kicks a plethora of population segments straight to the curb, including anyone with a different belief system, anyone without a belief system, women and their right to choose, the LGBT community, same-sex marriage partners, among others... admitting through his choice of words that he'd much rather live in a Theocratic Plutocracy devoid of tolerance than under the Democratic Republic our Constitution and government allows.

âÂÂThe question for Chairman Priebus and the GOP is simple, if they donâÂÂt support tolerance, what exactly do they stand for?âÂÂ

I, too, hope it swings back, for the sake of the people who have to live there, like my DS and DIL. I've lived in Virginia, NC and SC. And I would never want to go back to any of them, pendulum or not. And I'm sure they feel the same about me.

I'm a Yankee, born and bred, the south is alien territory to me.

More Comic Relief!
"âÂÂFor far too long, millions of heterosexual adults have been trapped in living nightmares of sexually dynamic, deeply fulfilling, and totally awesome marriages. This must be stopped,â Fugelsang says. âÂÂThe Centers for Disease Control finds that nearly 82 percent of men and 80 percent of women aged 15-44 admit to having experienced the tyranny that is oral pleasure. These sexually active adults are on a danger train, and Ken Cuccinelli is demanding that they all get off.âÂÂ

I saw that, Labrea... call me too modern, but I just don't understand this tight girdled, narrow minded approach to sex and sexuality.

Maybe poor Ken was the recipient of too many bad sexual encounters... or maybe he's the recipient of no sex, at all.

Where in the bible does it state that sex is to be performed one way only, for the singular purpose of the continuation of our species? I've read that thing backward and forward, and I don't recall any instructions on how humans can have sex.
