Champion II seedling issue

JeffFtCMarch 28, 2014

I have seedlings of 6 tomato varieties and only the Champion II are having issues. The 3 plants are about 5 weeks old and are showing signs of wilt around the margin of the older leaves. These margins fold up eventually. There is also some growth distortion. I was thinking seed-borne bacterial canker since it's just the one variety with symptoms. There is no insect activity. They are under grow lights for 14 hours and are allowed to dry significantly between waterings. Temperature is 65 at night and 69 during the day with a heating mat under them.

Tomato leaf roll as you are seeing is a physical response of the plant to some sort of stress, usually moisture related. It is possible that this particular plant has more underdeveloped roots so needs watering more frequently rather than "dry significantly between watering". Providing consistent soil moisture levels is the goal, not taking the plant from one extreme to the other.

Another possibility, but impossible to diagnose without actually examining the plant, is the presence of pests. Specially look for aphids, fungus gnats, or spider mites.

Probably those leaves got pest.
Examine closely under good lighting with a magnifier.
