Green Tomatoes

Hi im Natalie its Autumn here we have had a crazy summer this year, so my tomatoes are pretty big but they arent ripening, i was wondering if i should pick them or leave them on the plant? thanks

Until it gets close to freezing I would leave them out. Then when its going to freezing pick them and put them on the kitchen counter.They will ripen. You can also take a few green tomatoes and deep fry them like you would chicken in flour or cornmeal...its great.

Agree. How long until frost threatens them? Can you cover them with some light protection if it is only a light early frost? If so then leave them. They will ripen sooner on the vine than if picked green.

Actually if frost threatens, your best bet is to pull the entire plant and hang it upside-down somewhere warm for them to ripen. The tomatoes will pull nutrients from the dying plant, and you don't have to worry about pressure-spots from sitting on the counter.
