('zat how you spell deux?)
Jabbery bunch that we are, we reached the 150 posts limit on the previous thread.
anybody have a Climbing Pinkie Rose?
Oh darn Sylvia, Antique Rose emporium had little baby Pinkies at the Sperry show. They were only five dollars so I jumped on it, but it's still a little bitty baby. I think they are magnificent and can't wait till this one grows up!
maybe a Climbing Pinkie will turn up before the swap.
didn't mean to change the subject...
I'm excited about the Rose Propagation Demonstration/Workshop!
venessa, should we bring any materials ourselves?
maybe notebooks? digital cameras?
If you can write up instruction sheets, email them to me & I'll print them out.
(I guess you need to post what time you'll be conducting your class, so come-&-go participants won't miss it.)

I am going to Carrie's house in Copper Canyon to help her dig extras of plants/bulbs/etc. that she has. I KNOW how generous Carrie is and I KNOW I won't have room for everything she is going to send me home with so she has given her blessing for all of the extras to come to the swap with me. I don't know what all it will be and will just bring it with me and everyone can browse through it and see if we can do some wheeling and dealing. Carrie has extensive gardens so I can't wait to see all of the goodies. I'm sure I'll be begging for good homes for lots of stuff before the day is over. Heehee, exciting goings on!
I've got you down for the daisies and the gayfeather. Sorry, since I harvested so many jalapenos last year, I only started TWO seeds this year :). I'm only going to have one plant this year and Bo is getting the other one <: i take one of your chocolate mint and a black blue if you can spare them.>Thanks!!
Here's the garden ball I'm bringing for a prize.
It's bright red, overlaid with gold & then treated so that some of the red shows up in irregular halos.
...I only *thought* I had 2 kinds of kolanchoe;
when I set them outside, the dark-leaved one turned the same color as the other one!
I see them all over the place, but I don't know what they are!
I have these in a pot if anyone wants them (I was thinking somebody asked about hardy natives), if no one pipes up I'll plant them here & save the space in the car.
Thank you Kristi, I have you down for the chocolate mint and a b/b salvia.
Boy, I can't wait now that your going out to Carries I know you'll have a lot of stuff, I still need some southern wood fern so if you get any more I'll like some purty please, mine are taking their sweet time about coming up, I have one here and one there LOL.
Barb- I would love an obedient plant (mine sure aren't!)
and some vinca if you have any left.
Sylvia -- Are your little white flowers Texas rainlilies?(Cooperia) See link below. Also, I just looked up criniums OH MY GOSH...they are BEAUTFUL!! I have never heard of them. I would love one if you have any more to spare.
Venessa-sent you an email with quilting books, let me know if you didn't get it!
Here is a link that might be useful: Texas Rainlily
thanks, danna, yes, that's what they are.
I'll put your name on a crinum.
Be sure you allow it plenty of room, like a 3' square.
Those leaves are very long.
Sylvia, they look like the wild onions I have here. You might pluck one and see if it smells like onion.
Barb, thank you for the Mint and Salvia. I will see if Carrie has another fern for you :).
I see you've already identified it.
Here is what I have, let me know if I missed anything or anybody.....
-Henry Duelberg salvia
-Summer Sun sundrop
-four nerve daisy
-I have a couple of honeysuckle vines
-Artemisia oriental limelight
-coral honeysuckle (White also?)
Dannab- got you down for some obedient and vinca.
We dug up and transplanted 6 beauty berries. If they all survive (they really are tough to survive so far), I'll have one for Venessa, barefoot, dannab, sylvia and 2 for Tina.
Is any one interested in liriope? I have bunches that need moving or transplanting. Pretty sure its that, mondo grass has narrower leaves I think.
Thanks for all the offers to me. This will really be an exciting venture!
Yay, Dorothy, I've been wanting beautyberry for some time!
Are you still wanting understory trees?
I have a teeny tiny redbud growing in a coffee can.
I stuck it in there last summer & crossed my fingers, & now it's beginning to leaf out.
Yes still need things understory but we also got 10 redbud babies from the Arbor Day foundation. As far as I can tell, they are still 'sleeping' but I'm hopeful. :-)
Here is what I have and what I desire. Take care.

Ambersas - Liriope for??
Daylily, You got mail. Sometimes going through the GW doesn't work.
"Ambersas - Liriope for??" naked ladies!!
I'd love to have some naked ladies in my garden as well :).
Daylily79, your e-mail never came through. : ( I've tried to e-mail you, so maybe it'll work and maybe it won't. Let me know if it doesn't come. Thanks!
Venessa, a few years ago at a swap, were you driving a little car, white I think, hatchback or back lift thing, just packed with stuff?
Yeah. Being new to Texas gardening, I didn't know what naked ladies were, so I tried Googling "naked ladies" to see if Google image would have any pictures. Big mistake. Between Krisi's peppers and Mitch's flowers, I think this forum is a bad influence on me! (=o) LOL
LMAO, BO you should know better then to look up naked ladies on google but if u need to look up something questionable again put plant after it, these are also called red spider lilies. They are easy to grow, just pluck them where you want them and go.
Here is a link that might be useful: higanbana - red spider lily
Bo, just be sure not to plant the two together! You might end up with hot naked ladies or pink peter peppers!! When I do a search for a plant, I always put the word "grow" in front and the word "plant" behind it. Sometimes I throw "Texas" in there if I want to find out particularly how the plant does in Texas. LOL, wonder if you'll be getting any colorful spam now???
Here are some of the plants that I'm gathering up. I prefer to NOT to pretrade due to the fact that I might not make it. But in hopes that I can:
a shasta daisy
old orange daylillies
cana - orange/yellow
rosemary for sure and possibly
oregano I'll also check on winter savory and thyme
a rose or two
I would like some really nice daylillies, rainlillies, grape hycinth--fillers between the roses. (I have approx. 34 varieties -not plants- in the ground--not counting what's in pots--on a 50 X 100 lot that also includes the house! Not counting the brug, hibiscus-3 or butterfly bush)
Dorothy - My sis-in-law needs the liriope. Oh, and what's your fav. fragrance? I want, to bring you something special! Let me know. Thanks - tina_2
Sshuang - I have some : 6 inch pots, tomato plant"I am getting at the swap>,oregano plant for you , maybe some root stimulator"will have to look around>.
Can I have: the rose plant, strawberry plant ,luffa plant?
Please let me know. thanks - tina_2
I just sent you an email on the d'lils with my offer. Thanks - tina_2
Weldon-------Please read....... I live close by you and could pick up the plants for trading others for your wants. I can get you some grape hycinth in trade for Mexican hydrangia.
Please email me so we can work it out, Barbara
Mitch, I would love some of your nake ladies if you still have some available.
sshuang, I would like to have the comfrey, luffa, & scallions please.
Please let me know what you would like frm me. I have these still: 2 tomatoe cages, chives, peach tree seedling, crepe myrtle (I dug up a few days ago and trim it to 3 ft. Maybe still in shock from transplant).
Weldon, I have grape hyacinth.
If you can't make it, I'll be happy to send it to you by way of Barbara.
Does anyone want Chinese tallow trees?
I have 2 or 3 in pots, & they're beginning to leaf out.
They're invasive in the Houston area & in wetlands, but I never have had any trouble with mine.
& they make nice big trees.
I have more plants I want to trade, I'm looking for full shade plants, I have to trade bear breeches, two types of bog or water plant unknown names also have umbrella plant, for ????? Not sure what I'm looking for or willing to take at this moment. Would like something full or that fills out and doesn't need much water.
Yes marti that was me :O)
Oh I had to look up the climbing pinkie rose and now I just have to have one. Does anyone maybe have cuttings that I can turn into plants :)
Thanks BARB!! and Sylvia. I also have some blue mist plant and a comfry. Vanessa I had a Ramblin' Red seedling bloom! Wish you could have seen it--really a great red, even tho single, would you like cuttings of Cherokee Rose?
BTW folks, don't e-mail--won't work--I got a problem. Either post here or go to desertroserat.com; sign in and look for my post in Miniatures and click on the pm tab.
Barb, you should have an e-mail.
Weldon-----the email didn't come through, So I'm giving you my cell phone number 817-430-4985
Daylily------I still haven't heard back after emailing u?
Email's used on the gw don't go through like they use to.
So it's best the write your email on here or if emailing me just click on my email addy to the right of my gw name.
Barb, I'd like to list my e-mail, too, but I'm afraid of getting spammed to death. Do you get a lot?
Yes, I do get a lot of spam but it goes into a special folder and I don't worry about it. Like I stated above just click on my email addy to the right of my garden web name and it will let you email me.
Anybody interested in some little tomato plants? I think I'll have a few, and some daylilies and a few white iris. I think all my purple iris got killed by the guys who built our new fence, have to wait and see what blooms. But I'll have some garden junk to trade if you guys like that stuff. Cheryl
Allright I have an issue - my first try at moving the Goldenrod did not go well I am working with Sylvia on getting it better - Sylvia sooo sorry you had to be the guinne pig...

Everything else is a guess... I had to move some things around and wellll..... so I have about 20 in a bed to come that I lost the tags to and the rest need to make a show before I can be for sure...
Ambersas and Sylvia have the Naked Ladies...
I will master the Golden rod I promise. It is too great a plant. I had one little group here I moved and it is OK...
BTW - Dls I always bring to the swap the smae way I mail them - in a rubber band with the name only - no soil but bare root. If that is a issue let me know right now and I will work with you.
Mitch I'd love to get the following daylilies from you if they are still available.

Sylvia, Yes on the grape hycinth
Vanessa, haven't heard from you about Cherokee Rose cuttings
Remember: my e-mail is NOT working
Vanessa - got you down for all of those.
Weldon - I have Pink Grandor and White Pearl still - waht do you have by way of Roses? I am not really looking for anything else on your list. I might be interested in the Cherokee Rose ( are they easy to root?)and ??? I have you down for now for those two and I am sure we can work out something!
Weldon I'd love cuttings for the Cherokee Rose. Do you want the rooted cutting of Lavender Lassie?
Thank you Mitch, I am excited about them. I just started really liking daylilies.
Hey, I missed the "Cherokee Rose" thing:
I'd love some cuttings!
I know, I'm the queen of "Rooting Roses Not", but I've heard that this one is really easy, like a wild rose, & it grows huge enough to shelter birds' nests.
There's one at the FW Rose Gardens that has engulfed a covered wagon.
so if you have any extra, I'd sure like to try it.
I know I have some soaker hoses, 1 needs a patch put I think duct tape will work, & I'd like your gardenia if it's still available.
Here's what I have on my list for everyone:
You're bringing me: Cherokee rose cutting maybe.
blue mist flower, Kwanzo daylilies, 4 o'clocks, Crimson King & Well-Endowed irises.

Louisiana iris, purple
1 Salvia Black & blue
Yarrow paprika (red)
Golden Rain Tree (3)

Cannas, I know I have lemon-yellow Conestoga & coral-red Canna Indica, Indian Shot.
wonder why I'm sitting here making lists on a glorious day?
'cause I hurted myself yesterday out there bending & digging & carrying bricks!
hope you're all having a wonderful day in the garden.
blue mist flower, mauve crinum, Iris Well-Endowed
You're bringing me: heirloom tomato seedlings"
I show that I am to bring you Southern Shield Fern, Heirloom tomato and gayfeather. Did you still want the fern and the gayfeather??
(I wrote that down, must have skipped a line or something...)
I missed out on Naked Ladies :). Mitch, could I have some of your Sultry Siren Iris instead? I desperately need a splash of red in one area. I have down for you:
four nerve daisies
It is a Daylily not an Iris but I am sure I have one for you :-)
Sylvia, you got it!
Mitch, it's so sad when infirmaties manifest themselves :). Yes, thank you for the Sultry Siren DAYLILY, LOL!!
Sylvia, I'd love to have your purple Louisiana iris.
All right listen up everyone I worked outside all day and your not going to believe it but my DH got out there and pulled weeds while I did the digging plants for swap and transferring some to new areas in the yard.
I have more plants being that I moved some I went ahead and potted a few up to bring I'll have to go out with pen and paper to get my list of what I have.
Weldon I have your grape hyacinth in pot's, last fall I put some into a pot to see how they did over the winter, Well, They did great I have a big nest for you. I think they multiplied like rabbits.
great - Barb look at my list and tell me what you would like for the Lady in Red Salvia - or email me if you need a bigger list to look at.
(And you never know what else I might want after I see that list!)
Sylvia can I add Yarrow paprika (red) to my want list from you?

Barb, got your name on a Louisiana iris & a yarrow paprika.
I'd love to have Texas columbine if it's still available.
Mitch, thanks for the daylilies. I'll go thru the roses to see what I can bring. I think that I have two rooted cuttings of cherokee rose--1 for Vanessa; 1 for you if you want it and cuttings for Sylvia.
Barb, I do want a hypoestes --either one.
Thanks Barb and Sylvia for grape hycinths. yes, they do grow like rabbits, but make a good filler between roses.
Sylvia, I have you down for both columbines.
Weldon, I have you down for one of each of the Hypoestes
I over wintered these in my flower house and they did great. I didn't have enough room in the house for all my plants LOL. Some in the garage, some in house, some in flower house LOL.
Weldon, I'd like the Mexican hydrangia if you still have it.
I still haven't gotten your email.
Barb - check your email and let me know what DLs you would like.
I don't know if your Strawberry geranium and the larkspur are still available, but if they are, I would love to have them. I don't know if there's anything else on my list that you'd like to have, but I'm sure there'll be something from Carrie's you'll like. Let me know :)
Kristi, I still have them and put your name on the Strawberry geranium and the larkspur. I don't know what I need but my son wants to start his yard so some thing's for trade I will let him pick out what he want's. I know he wants mondo grass or Liriope his has a pretty large strip he needs to fill in so whoever has one or the other would be wonderful. He's also looking for esperanza - tecoma stans.
Mitch, you asked for my trade list. I'm starting all over again from scratch, having left my gardens back East. I don't have much to offer in the way of plants this year, but what I do have is listed below. If there's anything you can use, great--if not, I'll hook up with you next year! By then, surely I'll have plenty to trade. :)
All the poppies are pretty well spoken for, but I still have left for trade:
1) 2 gardening "coffee-table books" like new
2) Skin care set for hands (Mary Kay brand, set includes full-size exfoliating scrub, cleansing gel, emollient cream and moisturizer, all in pretty vinyl gift bag).
This stuff is great for gardeners! I bought way too much, not realizing how long this stuff lasts, and I even share it with DH. It has a nice, clean fragrance, not too "girly" so he can use it, too. If it doesn't go for trade, maybe we can use it as a prize? Either way, I don't want to bring it home because it'll go to waste before I have the chance to use it up. I've got more than one, if there's any interest. I also have BeautiControl self-warming skin care masques.
3) trailing rosemary, if my local garden center gets my order in soon enough. I ordered a flat of it for my rock retaining wall/bank, but I could bring one to trade.
4) lace cactus; the babies grow into cute little families of short, rounded columns with beautiful, large purple flowers on top
5) cactus (I haven't identified it yet), tall and spindly "branches" with lots of orange-red fruit and I don't know what color flowers yet; my largest is about 4' high and about 2' wide, but I'd be bringing the smaller ones for trade
6) blackfoot daisy
7) cuttings of a pink rose bush; they were here before I was, and I haven't identified them yet--Belinda's Dream, maybe? DH tried his best to kill them through total neglect before we married, but they wouldn't die; since I moved in last summer, I've babied them and they look great.
8) various decorative flower pots, all around the 8-10" size, some pretty, some average, but all functional.
Barefoot, if nobody has spoken for your magazines, would you like to exchange those for the poppies instead of the food? Either way works for me.
bo, I'd love the books if they're still available!
I can bring red yucca, Century plant, & name whatever else you'd like (see my post of Sunday March 25 at 16:10.)
(Are we still doing prizes?)
Barb, thanks. I can dig some liriope for your son as well. I also have some shasta daisy that I just dug today. The Liriope will have to wait til after this batch of rain. It's really starting to come down here with lightening and thunder. Sigh.....I'm hoping for another break in it today as I have some other stuff I'd like to get done out there as well. Oh, LOL, I was going to say that I think the daisy would look nice in your son's loriope bed. I think it would also be interesting to see if they could both survive in the same bed, those are a couple of tough plants :). The two shades of green and the different textures might be a nice contrast and the daisy flowers hovering over all of the green when they bloom would help to break it up.
Anyhoo, thought I might mention it to ya :).
Thank you Kristi, DS said he doesn't want anything to girlie LOL, he'll learn :) so I don't know if he'd like the daisies or not.
BO- Black foot Daisy is on my wont list!! I would also love some of both of the cactus... sooo what Dls can I get to you.
Kristi, Carrie has offered to let my son get some mondo grass aka money grass, I will still take the Liriope only if you've dug it up already, know need in doing it if you don't have to.I'll let you know for sure if he does get the grass, ok?
"Are we still doing prizes?"
I'm bringing a prize, just for fun, probably either a new bird feeder or one of the hand spa kits I mentioned. Are the prizes awarded by pulling a name out of a hat? I'd think one would need to be present to win, so we might state a time for the drawing for those who can't stay for the entire time. I think other people mentioned bringing prizes, too, but I don't recall who.
Sylvia, the books are yours. :)
Mitch, I don't know what you've got left, but from the pictures I saw on Google, my favorites of your list are:
Sultry Siren (most favorite!)
Little Heavenly Angel
I look forward to trying new Dls. Stella d'Oro are the only ones I've ever grown.
I might have - Sultry Siren - if it made a lot of shoots this year
These I have for sure... and I will have your name on them for you.
Little Heavenly Angel
"I'll let you know for sure if he does get the grass, ok?"
Barb, you bet :). Is he going to Carrie's to get it?
Yes, if all goes well. Email me if you can please.
OOPS, The above message for Kristi...Email me please...
Barb, I sent email at 7:30. Didya get it? Sent it to your jetman addy.
Didn't mean to derail the thread. Has anyone seen/heard from barefoot lately. The last time I remember a post was just before I originally said I would bring chips and dips on the previous thread??
Barefoot, where are youuuuu???
bo_berrin, that hand stuff from Mary Kay is the best!!!
I love it.
oppps.. I take that back... none of you want it...
& where's liz?
I found the other kolanchoe (bright green leaves) for her.
Melvalena, it is! I believe in getting dirty and working with my hands, so I end up with callouses and dry skin if I don't have some serious skin care going on afterward. That stuff works better than anything else I've tried--and I think I've tried 'em all! Sometimes I sleep with the emollient cream on under gloves. It takes 10 years off my hands overnight! (I should be selling this stuff.) And speaking of taking stuff off my hands...are you coming to the swap? You could get one of these!
I hope the plants I gave you last year are doing ok. I'll save the comfrey for you. The luffa I have are still starting in the seed pots. I'll bring a pot for you. I'll also dig up some scallion for you. I remember it was called multiplying scallion.
Do you know what kind of peach tree seedling you got? I would like to use a peach seedling as rootstock for Belle of Georgia peach. I can use the tomato cages if I can get some tomatoes. I already have chives and crepe myrtle so I don't need any more.
I'm interested in getting some little tomato plants if you have some left. Let me know what you like that I have.
I hope the yaupon hollies I gave you last year are doing ok.
I'll bring you a gardenia. If you like, I can bring you some roses I rooted from cuttings. I don't know what their cultivars are since they are from the previous homeowner but I have pink and red roses.
I can really use soaker hoses, particularly for the foundation with sprinklers restricted due to water restrictions.
Since my last post on Mar 22, I have Cherimoya seeds and some pomegranate seedlings.
bo_berrin, yes I'm planning on being there.
sshuang, yes, the yaupons are doing well!
I'll bring hoses/soakers & maybe a "regular" one.
I'd love roses & pomegranites.
Please look at my list & see if there's anything else I can bring you!
My friend Vi (Violette) is planning on coming!
She doesn't have a whole bunchto bring, but she does know she'll have orange trumpet vine (good for full sun & brutal, inhospitable sites...& they're butterfly magnets).
The only thing she mentioned in the way of "wants" is that "irises are my husband's favorite flower".
Just a reminder, for the last two years the park has been closed for the coming advents of Mayfest and we've had to hold the swap just inside the park.
Here is a map for anyone that needs it. Look to the center left you'll see Fort Worth Botanic Gardens you enter into the park on the other side from the gardens.
BTW.. You can zoom in and out on the map for clear viewing.
Here is a link that might be useful: google maps
Hi all. Just got this info. - I will have dh & grandson with me that day. So, I may not be on time- but I will be there. Just wanted, to let everyone know. Is anyone else, bringing little ones? My grandson loves to be outside, to play and discover! Thanks - tina_2
sshuang, the plants I got are doing great. I'm not sure what kind of peach they are. I got them at Home Depot a few years back. They don't sell them anymore or I haven't seen any around. Sorry, I'm not much help, but I will save the tomato cages and the peach seedlings for you. I would also like a pomegranate seedling, please.
Tina_2, my son will be there. He always tags along when I go to my swaps. Although, he is more interested in the playground and the train ride then the plants :=)
I'm here - puter died a slow death, but it is back now. Still planning to bring lunch and drinks, etc. for everyone. Also have some chocolate jalapeno seeds if anyone is interested. Brenda
I have a three year old... I would love to bring if he can play with other kids... Does anyone have an older kid to help us a little . . .I would even be willing to chip in a little to give them some money for their trouble.
I can hardly wait!! There is soo much to do here. I keep finding some more things to bring - so many plants so little time...
Anyone else setting out seedlings right now? I wintersowed several and am trying to get them out so I can pass on the extras.

DON'T email me from here--doesn't work. Post a notice here and I will e-mail YOU.
Weldon, I would like to have one of your rudbeckias if it is still available. Let me know, look forward to seeing you there :).
Weldon, I would like the Mex. hydrangea.
Weldon, way back on the other list? about the Ft Worth swap you mentioned some rose you might have for me. . . I was looking for what would probably be called an earthkind rose (tough, durable, disease resistant) that would tolerate some shade. :-)
I'd love to try the camomile here - used to grow it in MD.
Hi - Would you accept, some scented creeping phlox (phlox subulata- magenta/pink flowers) to fill in your rose bed. If so, I would like the coral vine. Plmk. Thank you, so much. tina_2
Weldon, I'd sure like to have the nandina.
Please let me know what I can bring you in addition to the grape hyacinths.
Weldon, I just remembered I have a plant stand:
it holds 3 plants in a sort-of tier arrangement, & it collapses for transport.
It was a black metal thing, & I painted it sage green.
OH me, I'm going to try to honor your requests. Barb is picking up my plants on Fri 4/6 and your plants will have a green tape with your name on it. Barb gets a Mex Hydrangea; Dorothy= Germ. camomille and Belinda's Dream; Krist rudbeckia triloba; Sylvia - nandina; tina-2 coral vine. Mitch I need to hear from you...did you get the e-mail about the rose?? same question for Vanessa!! Sylvia, how do I change my e-mail on Garden Web? I tried but nothing happened. Will the plant stand hold a large (10 inch or larger) pot on top? If so, green is good!
I only have a couple of minutes right now so wanted to see what was going on. Yeah it's almost time for the swap :O)
Weldon I didn't get an email from you. Here is my email address firstname.lastname@example.org
If anyone needs to get in touch with me before I check back here to catch up just email me or you can instant message me through yahoo messenger, my id is venessap1.
Weldon - two roses right? The Cherokee and ??? for the Pink Grandor and White Pearl DLs...
I replyed but I guess it did not get that way! I would love them...
I cannot wait - I wanted to dig today... I have seedlings to plant up and sooo much to do today and it is way toooooo wet out there... in fact I have a few bushes that have fallen over with all the water.... I just hope these will make it - I am going to try to get all these fixed up when things dry a little.
Yes, Mitch I have two roses for you. Really want to meet you and ask some q's about daylilies. One is about the motleing you see in the pic of the red seedling.
Venessa, I'm sending an e-mail.
weldon, the base of the pot would have to be just a scrap smaller than 8".
To change your info:
At the bottom of this page, near the right side of the green stripe, click on "member pages", & then just follow the steps.
I love DLs . . . not the best with them but I have bred a few here myself and just love them - all of them. At one time I was going to try to bred them here in North Texas - there are no major breeders in the area that I can find ... but my breeding program is a hard road trying to get the little guys to live through their first summer...
I would love to talk DLs with ya!
tina, I do want some creeping phlox. Mitch, the red DL in the picture is from a seed that I was given. Apache War Dance X Red Loveliness. I have 3 others from other souces that I HOPE will bloom this year.
Looks good - wish it would not molt like that... how many fans do you have of it? Have you thought of sending it to a friend in TN or AR area to see what it does there? If the molting is an issue here they often do great there and you could get its papers - sure is a nice one. How many blooms per scape? How many scapes per clump?
3 of the "backhoe" iris are blooming!
don't know if you can see it in the picture, but the petals have a sort of glistening or glittering look to them.
anybody else want some?
(Disclaimer: They may not all be like this, who knows?)
Sylvia!! Thanks for being such an enabler!! LOL. I will be bringing some stuff that I haven't listed that I got from Carrie's. I think you'll be able to find a thing or six you will like from them. May I have a backhoe iris, please?
only you may have to take "an iris or six": it's *very* hard to get them separated in that fork-breaking clay!
Darn...(Snort)!!! If I must.....
As long as I'm enabling, do any of the "bog garden people" want some of these?
(They're a tiny bit deeper in color than the photo looks, & this one got beat up in the storm, so it's a little tattered.)
I have lots of these & will be glad to get some out if somebody wants them.
I wish I had a bog. That is pretty Sylvia
Weldon - Don't worry , I have some scented creeping phlox for you.
Kristi - Don't worry - I may need some of those plants, from your friend Carrie!
See y'all there. tina_2
Remember - I may be a tad late, but I will be there.
Tina, with all I am bringing, I am going to be throwing plants at everyone.....don't be tooooo late ;). Course, I can always resort to slipping them into parked cars as well ":^). I had to contrive a shelving system for the back seat area of my truck. Can't let any of these babies get blasted for 55 miles of highway driving in the bed of the truck. I have some of that old plastic shelving, so yesterday, I cut the legs in half, they fit perfectly and should ride fine :). Need to sit down and sort all the plants though, to see if I need another tier!
Since several people will be "coming & going", I think we should draw for prizes at 11:45.
That's late enough that everyone should have arrived, but not so late that people have to leave for afternoon soccer games & such.
(If anyone sees a problem with the time, or has a better idea, please post.)
Hi Everyone I'm getting really excited now .... only 5 days til swap time. WooHoo
I haven't been on in a while so I had LOTS of reading to catch up on.
I can't remember who said they had Chocolate Mint but I would love a clump or two, I have mint coming from Tina_2 but I think it's regular mint. I am interested in any & all mints as I am trying to get a mint garden going because the grands love tea parties & I love fresh mint tea. mmmmm
I saw the list you had for me up in this thread & you missed my backhoe irises (beautiful picture of it too).
Also will the bog plant be good in a pond? If so I know Donna would love some for her pond.
Yes I have you down for brownies ;o>
I have you down for brownies & either banana or pumpkin bread (no nuts)and cannas (which I was informed that they are some kind of Lilly) I'm checking with a friend about getting the cannas for you.
from you: GH frame, pink 4 o'clock, Grape iris, mint & rectangular pots (if you don't have room to carry them I'll pick them up when I come for the GH)
I just realized that I don't have you down for anything, I should have an extra purple hyacinth bean vine (only 2 sprouted out of 13 seeds, I will also have Ranunculus some datura & whatever else that pops up between now & friday
from you: apron
I have a LOT of morning glories springing up if anyone wants some let me know I have dark purple - Grampa Ott & a light purple (lost the name)
It looks like I should have about 6 of the paper shell pecan seedlings - compliments of the squirrels. LOL
I am also planning to go to the other swap near Ft Wth on the 28th, so if you have an abundance of stuff & aren't planning on attending it I would be happy to carry stuff out there to share
See Y'all Saturday
Here is what I got for trades. Let me know if something is missing or different. Thanks.
I'll get some peach seedlings and tomato cages. In return, I'll give you pomegranate seedlings, comfrey (1 only), Luffa seedling ( 1 only), multiplying scallions.
I'll get a soaker hose and maybe a garden hose. I'll give you rose cuttings, pomegranate seedlings, and a gardenia.
I'll get 6" pots, tomato plant, and an oregano plant. I'll give you rose cuttings, strawberry plant, and a luffa plant.
I'll get an oregano plant. I'll give you yaupon holly plants.
BTW, I also have deciduous oak tree seedlings if anyone want them.
sounds good to me sshuang; (& I've got you 3 hoses.)
Weldon, I also found a couple of more plant stands, will bring the 3 if Vi has room in her hubs's truck.
I also have a wood cantaloupe crate if anyone's interested;
it's slatted, might make a nice accent in the garden.
Alright all - space is everythingso before I get out there and dig on Friday I need any last requests!
BTW - I take most orphan plants, I teach near down town Dallas and take anything extra to school to the kids. Getting them hooked young!
Debbie, the hyacinth bean sounds great! Got just the place for it too! Datura would be interesting too.
I am so looking forward to this - I have at least 6 beauty berries that survived the transplant and 3 oreganos, and a box of liriope that y'all can divy up! too much to plant in pots and the stuff is really really tough.
Not to mention - still have the aprons to bring too!
I'm planning on attending and this will be my first event. I am still filling my beds - so don't have anything established enought yet to divide and share - but - thought i'd come to visit and meet everyone, see how it all works for next year - when i have stuff to trade too!
I know it this saturday april 7 at trinity park (I'm familiar with that place) What time are you meeting AND are we brining food? Pot luck? Snacks only?
Thanks for your help - I'm bringing my friend too!
You can bring food or snacks to share, several people are bringing stuff, & 1 person is grilling hot dogs in lieu of garden/trade material!
& you don't have to have green things to trade:
books, magazines, garden junque, crafts, handy stuff, etc.
all can be traded.
looking forward to seeing you there!
I know I sent in a post last night, but I haven't seen it. . .
Debbie, hyacinth bean and datura sound great!
Really excited about this swap! I have at least 6 beautyberries that survived the transplant into pots, 3 oregano plants (one for sshuang), and a box of liriope that you can take what you want! It was too much to pot up, and the stuff is really really tough.
Oh, still have aprons too!
It looks like we both posted at the same time on monday, did you see my reminder for the beautiful backhoe irises & the request for Donna?
I'm getting everything together to take with me. LOL still have the baking but will do that Thursday or Friday so it's nice & fresh!!
Seriously cannot wait until Saturday. This is so much fun. Anybody have orphans they want to trade for hot dogs, soda/water, and chips - I'll take. Just started a new garden area that needs to be filled. Not real picky either.
Bo - the magazines are yours (lunch too). Sylvia - I would love a couple of those bog plants. Oh and I'm bringing something for the prize table.
Debbie, gotcha on the backhoe irises, & the La irises will love it in the boggy edge of a pond, she can just plant them right in the ground.
Brenda-I'll put your name on some La irises, too.
Here is a sample of the prize I'm bringing for the table
I am getting sooo excited!! I cannot wait and have soooo much to dig out still...
That is the *cutest* angel!
Sylvia the plant stand with less than 8" shelf will work.
Here's hoping to see everyone.
Just caught the forecast for Sat. Little nippy! But that's great for the plants! Just wanted to make sure everyone dressed appropriately!
Dorothy, I'd sure like to have a beautyberry if you have a spare.
Debbie, I'd love a Grandpa Ott morning glory if there're enough.
Everybody, please double-check your lists to be sure you aren't leaving something or someone out.
I was just going through my many lists (note to self: don't make so many lists), & realized I didn't have anything down for Barb.
"Why?", I wondered to my wondering self. "Barb & I *always* have something going back & forth."
so I looked back through this entire looonnnnggg thread...
& found it.
don't know how I missed it before, but I did.
(& Barb woulda been maaaad at me!)
To try to keep from missing something/someone again, I'm planning on putting fullpage labels on each person's box.
Each label will have the person's name & what I'm bringing for him or her, & what they're bringing for me.
The only things that I know of that I planned on bringing that I can't bring are the datura/moonflowers.
I don't know where they are or what's keeping them, but I do not see one little velvety silvery bluegreen leaf *anywhere*.
frustrating, because I just know, about one minute after the swap, I'll be awash in moonflowers!
note to all:
If you're planning on bringing something for someone, & it looks like it ain't gonna happen, you might post the message here or email your trader, just to let them know, so they won't be disappointed Saturday.
Has anyone heard from Liz?
I'm still planning on bringing the Kolanchoes & vinca & Asian jasmine for her.
Today is Wednesday, & it's supposed to be cold the next few nights.
Y'all might want to plan on watering everything thoroughly pretty soon, & putting things together Friday evening/night.
It sure makes Saturday morning easier!
It's nearly here, & my head is spinning, so if you think I may have forgotten something, I probably have, so do not hesitate to say something!
can't wait to see everyone!
Sylvia - do you have an "approximate" head count. I want to make sure I bring enough dogs, drinks, chips, etc.
Barefoot, don't forget...I am going to do the chips and some dips, I think Barb is doing paper goods....Lunch for all of us is a lot to take on so I wanted to help out a bit :).
To all: I will be posting a final listing of who gets what from me and for me tomorrow and will get it posted then :)
AWWW Sylvia, I could never be mad at you.
Yepppp, I'm bring plates, plastic silverware (grin) and paper towels.
I have everything in boxes with names on who they go too, learned that from Dear Sylvia.
Plus I put everything into the garage over the weekend so everyone is safe for trades. If I'm able to get out and dig just a few more thing's I'll try but I have a good amount besides what I've already traded.
I'm ready for Saturday, only three more days YEA!!!!
Barb-the purple flower that I posted above is the Louisiana Iris; it grows great in boggy areas, but you don't have to have a bog.
Mine are in an old plastic wading pool that I sank in the ground until the top edge was level with the ground (it nearly killed me), & then I filled it with soil & planted the La Irises in it.
just like that.
The only supplemental water they get is whatever runs out of the hose when I leave it running for a few minutes for some reason.
This spring they're doing better than ever before, & I think it may be because I covered them every time the temps dropped below about 30.
This winter, for the first time, they didn't die all the way to the ground, they stayed green, & I think it gave them enough of a head start that they're just breathtaking.
It seems that some La Irises do have to have much wetter conditions:
I got some unknown Louisiana iris from somewhere several years ago, put them *right next to* these purple ones, & they never bloomed.
Dug them up last autumn, put them in pots & submerged them in the bog, told them to do the best they could, & today I have....brilliant, luscious, yellow flowers!
I've got your name on a purple one.
In fact, just to be on the safe side, here's your list:
Achillea Paprika (red yarrow)
full shade plants if I think of any or find any!
Mitch--I wasn't planning on bringing all the native honeysuckle I dug up but if you think your kids would want it I will bring more! Gotta get them started young and my Kinder kids love the smell!
Debbie- I would love some morning glories.
I still have
--native carolina jasmine
--pots from 6 inch to gallon
********TEXAS BLUE-EYED GRASS --attached link to my photo, how do you insert photo into message? Somebody email me! email@example.com
I can dig up Friday if anybody wants some
Here is a link that might be useful:
Oops! Forgot to mention I am bringing a decorative bird house for the exchange.
Does blue-eyed grass need a lot of sun?? If not, I would love some!!
I've been mostly a lurker for a while now. I'm planning to attend on Sat, but what time?? And, where exactly in Trinity? I saw a post that said across from the Botanical Gardens Entrance -- is that correct? I would hate to miss it!
Anyway, I don't have much, as we just moved into this house a little over a year ago, but I want to participate!! :)
I have available (not quite sure whether to just cut and bring -- please point me to any posts that have helpful info on bringing plants):
-- purple iris
-- catmint (big hills variety, I believe)
-- bee balm
I'm looking for:
-- houseplants (I posted to someone about peace lilies. Would also be interested in mother-in law tongue, cast-iron plant, swiss-cheese plant)
-- any type of mint
-- catnip, mosquito-repelling plants!
-- pomegranite (sp?)
Also, I have kids that will be with me. I saw someone else's post. I have a 3YO and a 6MO that will probably be with me.
I have oodles of MG's in fact I have 16 or more little cups of them & more in the garden LOL (Donna wanted to make sure I had lots growing for her to see out her kitchen window so when we were yanking the old vines down she shook the vines to drop more seeds), and of course she thinks it's hilarious as to how over run my garden is. Ya know I just can't throw them in the trash so will be sending a bunch to school with the grands to share with their friends too. LOL
I have a rooted piece of Hoya I can bring to you if you want it. Also spider plant, 2 varieties of mother of thousands & some babies from my burrows tail. Let me know OK.
I would Love some of your Catmint. Also some of the Bee Balm (what color & heigth?)
How many vines do you want??? A dozen or more ..... haha ... seriously.
Donna & I will be bringing (some are just sprouted)
16 Morning Glories (mixed Lavendar & Grandpa Ott) 3 in a cup
16 starts of Easter Egg plant - 3 in a cup
5 Black Hollyhocks - 2 in a cup
2 Black Currant Datura - 1 in a cup
2 Yellow Datura - 1 in a cup
3 Ranunculus - 1 in a cup
7 Lambs Ear - 3 in a cup
3 Pink Dianthus - 3 in a cup
several "lillies" (I thought they were Canna's LOL)
If anyone wants I can also bring a clipping from my Lavender Lady Passion flower
or an unknown variety of passie,
or a clipping from my shell vine
(let me know or my shears won't touch em)
If anyone has moon flowers that aren't white I'd be interested in getting one.
Sorry I'm so long winded tonight,
Ooops I left part out & mixed things up. .... Sorry for the confusion but if you want a houseplant too dannab_1 just let me know.
I was interested in your Carolina Jasmine & Spiderwort
Water0125 - Natalie
I was referring to you when I said I would Love some of your Catmint. Also some of the Bee Balm (what color & heigth?)
also I have a rooted piece of Hoya I can bring to you if you want it. Also spider plant, 2 varieties of mother of thousands & some babies from my burrows tail. Let me know OK
I will dig you up some spiderwort and save you some jasmine.
I would love a start of mother of thousands, an easter eg plant and I can never turn down cutting of passion vines, mine are barely starting to come up.
Dorothy- I read that the blue-eyed grass can grow in the shade but mine is in the pasture in full sun. Forgot to mention it is only about 6 inches tall. A tiny beauty! It was blooming everywhere last spring in the middle of the drought out here. I will dig you some up Friday.
Natalie, it's just north of I-30 on University.
If you exit I-30, go north on University, & you'll see the entrance to Trinity Park.
Turn in & follow the trail around til you see us.
Natalie, I can bring you some chocolate mint & some peppermint.
Debbie, I'll take all the morning glories that are left over:
I have a ton of ugly fencing to cover, but if it doesn't get covered this summer, it's no big deal.
I would like some black hollyhock, never had those before, never even seen them "in person"!
