I've been trying to track down a Quenepas/Mamoncillo/Spanish Lime/etc tree in San Diego but haven't had any luck yet. Anyone know where I might be able to pick one up? Thanks!
We have them here in south Florida. Mickey at plantogram sells 2 or 3 different kinds. I got mine from him. He will ship to Cali.
I actually did order one from Florida but it didn't survive the journey, so I was hoping to find a local source in SoCal. Thanks for the info though.
I believe they are dioecious so you may need a male & female to get fruit.
Yes you do need both. I have one that is about 60 ft tall in my yard. But I just did get a male for it that is only 4 ft.
I just came back from St. Croix in the Virgin Islands. Hundreds of trees everywhere. Especially in the rainforest. Did manage to bring some fruit back.
Now I have about 30 seeds. My wife ate these constantly.
Pine Island in So Florida is shipping these to L.A. and possibly San Diego. Call Jimmy at Champa Nursery in El Monte, he's got a variety that's self pollinating.(626) 213-7747
I already tried having one shipped from one of the Florida nurseries (gardenweb doesn't allow me to mention their name apparently) and it didn't even survive a week. There are a few SoCal nurseries that say they will have them in the spring, so for now I'll just wait and see.
