Need Help to Identify this Mango Variety

marinfla(10 South Florida)July 20, 2010

I am posting some pictures of a mango tree and it's beautiful fruit that I need to identify.... the owner doesn't have any idea what it is. He bought it at Home Depot 5 yrs ago and doesn't know what type it is....BUT I want one just like it :)

Thanks for helping ID this.

Valencia Pride?

pictures of the flesh and seed would help positively identify it

I concur....Valencia Pride it is....or a darned good imitation thereof, if not. Since it was bought at Home Depot...that pretty much clinches it. They don't sell seeedlings.

It does look like a Valencia Pride. My next door neighbor has a valencia pride mango tree and the fruits, the shape of the leaves and the overall structure of the tree seems identical to the one you have.

I live in Central FL and the only variety of Mango that my local Home Depot every sells in the four years I've lived here is "Haden"...I always ask them why they don't get any other varieties and they say that's the one recommended to grow best in this area...which we all know is not necessarily true! I'm guessing Home depot must get their Mango trees from local nurseries? Lowe's on the other hand carries Pine Island Mango varietes...they sell them with the PIN labels still attached. They sell about 3-4 different ones on occasion.

Great looking tree and fruits!

Valencia Pride for sure. Fairly common at my local Home Depot.

Very good mango too if you don't mind a huge tree that grows fast.

Here is another picture of a second fruit compared to the first one. The beak on this one is very odd from the others. The other beaks are minimal and almost smoothed. When these two mangoes ripen I will post the flesh and the seed pictures. Thanks for the feedback!!!

The Lowes nearest to my house had a row of valencia pride, carrie, mallika, glenn and haden. I wanted to get carrie, but I wanted something that would taste awesome and grow big enough to give my yard more privacy, yet not take up the whole yard like valencia pride. So I got a Glenn. It is growing very rapidly. :)
