HAVE: Waxahachie Autumn Swap Saturday October 18 2014

sylviatexas1August 26, 2014

This will be our second swap at Brown Singleton Park;
the first ever Waxahachie Swap was last spring, & everyone who came had a great time & went home with wonderful plants & new friends!

a couple of highlights from last spring:

The 'iris lady', whose plants are descended from a bunch she ordered from Schreiner's way back when, had at least 2 bushel baskets of them.

A man from Alvarado had the most *perfect*, the most *gorgeous* succulents, all named, all labeled, in half-gallon (I think) pots.

A woman from Palmer had crinums & spider lilies & promised more.

We start at 9 AM & usually our motors run down by about 1 PM, but there's no limit on our time at the park.

Brown Singleton Park is on Farley Street, just a bit south of 287 (the bypass, not business 287).

When you pass River Oaks Subdivision, you'll see the park on the right.

Turn in to the parking lot, & we'll be there at the front, by the trees.

Classic plant swap rules:
trade anything for anything as long as everybody's happy.
if you're just getting in to gardening, bring cookies or crafts or just anything; gardeners always need sunblock, lotion, gardening gloves, pots, etc.

I'm going to a fundraiser, and don't think I can make it. I have bronze leafed cannas to give away, and I want crinums! Whah!

franksmom, where are you?

I would be happy to take your cannas to the swap & get or bring you some crinums-
I have at least a couple that I can dig up.

I'm really going to try and make it. I think I have some pots I need to pass on, and we'll see if I can get those cannas dug today.

If not, have fun! it sounds like a great time!

Thank you everyone, it was a wonderful swap (especially Sylvia for organizing it). I came home with so many treasures, that I have to admit, I wasn't able to remember what all of them were. I have this little beauty, and I can't remember what it is or who I got it from. Does this look familiar to anyone?

Zebrina Hollyhock!

It *was* fun, wasn't it?

Even though it was just the second Waxahachie swap, we had some old friends returning, & we also met a lot of new friends!

A couple of great ideas for future swaps:

One person brought bananas & individually-wrapped cheese sticks-what a great "swap" for someone who has too many plants already!

& another couple brought decorative rocks, herb products (ie, dried sage, rosemary, & stevia for your pantry, rather than the plants), & crafts like Christmas stockings.

Several people were interested in edible plants, & although we did have a few herbs & at least one small fig plant, spring is the very best, most excellent time to plant a vegetable garden, so we might all be thinking about the seeds we can start for the next swap in April.

Thanks to all who came & made this swap a success & a wheelbarrow load of fun!
