WANTED: Pachysandra procumbens - Allegheny spurge

freshair2townsquare(z7/8, D/FW)August 28, 2008

OMG! I am sooooo excited! I just found my dream, almost-native, part-to-full-shade groundcover & I have no idea where to find it. I'm sure I've never seen it in the big boxes or the nurseries I go to.

Does anyone know *where I can buy* Pachysandra procumbens?

~~ or ~~

Does anyone *have some they can share*? If you do, we can discuss trade options.

I found this web site on the net, but not sure how good the quality of the plants might be since I never used the vendor before. Cheryl

Cheryl ~ they only offer the Japanese type, not the Allegheny variety - I've challenged myself to only plant native from now on (because my life wasn't complicated enough to begin with). When I'm in a good mood, its actually a bit of an exciting challenge to find native alternatives. So I did a huge happy dance, within the confines of my blue recliner, when I found the Allegheny Spurge variety on wildflower.org

But if you find another hit . . .

I too have been looking for this. Last night I found a site offering it, bare root. I've ordered some and I'll let you know what it looks like when it arrives. Its a place in Tennessee. http://www.violavalleywildflowers.com/az.html

I know it makes a great ground cover in Washinton D.C. It doesn't like being walked on but fills in quite well after a while. Happy hunting
