Have: id of 'mystery bulb' from swap

Lin barkingdogwoodsNovember 2, 2008

Scott had some marvelous "mystery bulbs", and I had thought they may be what's referred to as "African Hostas", Drimiopsis maculata. I dug up some that had sprouted again in my side yard, and the bulb looks identical.

Please see the link below - if you look VERY closely, you can see the tops of the bulbs. I'm fairly certain that's what they are.

Here is a link that might be useful: African Hosta

Thanks Lin. Are these the ones that get dots on them in the shade? I got some of these from Scott at the spring sale. Is the link a picture of a type of plant that you already have (the one that came up in your side yard)? I was born in south africa and lived in swaziland, so that plant would have some special meaning to me.

Yes, Alison, they get dots on them and mine came up in a shade garden that's fairly neglected. I just dug mine up to move, and they look identical to what Scott share.

How nice to have a little piece of home with you here in Texas!

Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure what they were or where they go, but now I know!
