I thought guava and guayaba were the same too until I was at the Mexican grocery store the other day and saw three different packages for them. ??? Now I wonder.

Gardener972,

Gwen is right. Guayaba is spanish for Guava.

Ganabana is a totally different fruit. It is called Soursop in english or Annona Muricata.

There is also Guaya!. This is how we refer to Meliccocus bijigatus in Mexico.

In case you see "Bayabas" as well, that's Filipino for Guava.

I guess the only way to really determine the difference is to go to Fiesta today and buy the frozen pulp of all three. I'll bet the third one was guaya, as mentioned above. I'll let you know how the taste test goes.
