thespesiaFebruary 28, 2010

i overwintered gerbera this harsh winter. but being a newbie to gardening, i was wondering when is the ideal time to transplant it so i can have it bloom over summer and fall. some say early spring.. but what is the ideal temperature to transplant plants after overwintering?

Where do you have the plants right now? Do you have any sign of growth? Make sure the plant is in the sun and work up the soil outside in the areas you wish to plant. Place the plant outside for 7-10 days ~protected area so it can start to adapt to the outside temps before you plant. I live in central VA and keep mine in the ground all year - they are in afternoon sun location and protected. I'll see how they do after this winter's weather, as they are slow to pop up in the spring.
