The question is -- what now?

ourlittleeden(Z8aArlington)August 2, 2010

We've cleared this bed outside our kitchen dining area and now we are wondering what to plant.

This is the south side of the house, fairly dry but with good drainage (foto was taken around 5pm so there's shade from a large tree on the other side of the driveway). Near the fence, which faces east you can see a little bit of a rose bush which I'd like to keep.

Thinking about a Japanese maple in front of the windows but what else would thrive here? We've discussed sprinkling Nandinas around for soft movement and color, maybe a couple of lounging loropetalums too. Ribbon grass for edging? Attractive but low maintenance is what we seek!

Hi ourlittleeden - Your photo didn't come through because you picked up the [img] tag instead of [html].

When you repost, go ahead and put your question on the discussions side. Just hit discussions under the top logo and post there. You'll get a lot more answers there as more folks see it.

A Japanese Maple might have a tough time there on the south side even with shade. I've attached a link to Metro Maples. They're the experts on Japanese Maples in Texas.

Post your picture and we'll take a look and make more suggestions.
