Your're not going to believe your eyes ... Carrie's Brugs

roselee z8b S.W. TexasNovember 26, 2011

Dr. Seuss and Serendipity!

Carrie said that these were taken a couple of days ago, and although the frost nipped all the leaves off the top of Dr. Seuss, he doesn't seem to mind at all.

Wow Carrie -- these are the most unbelievably beautiful brugs I've EVER seen. How do you get them to grow this well? Do you use lots of donkey poo or what??? Inquiring minds want to know :-)

Thank you so much for sending the pictures so I could post them!

I do use donkey poo, Roselee, but I also fertilize twice a week during their normal blooming season (which was dismal this season) and never let them dry out. They are hungry and thirsty most of the time, and if you do this for them, they will bloom for you.

They are gorgeous, those are amazing blooms.

Mine just bloomed, but not quite so many.

They are so gorgeous Carrie! I wish that I had the discipline to feed mine correctly!

Carrie, what kind of fertilizer do you use? I want to treat mine right next year.

Roselee, I use any good 20-20-20 like MiracleGro. I then add tomato fertilizer and Epsom salt but I cannot give you the exact ratio as I mix mine in a 30 gallon trash can...I have so many to fertilize that it would take too long otherwise.
Pam, it's not as difficult to become disciplined as you may think............you water anyway, so just keep your fertilizer mixed and it is there when you water.

Wow Carrie! Do you move all the potted brugs into the plant room for the winter? Or take cuttings and let them go?

I move the potted ones inside, Jim (don't have as many of these as I once did). These are inground, and I will cut them back in the next few days and hopefully, find homes for the cuttings. I did not cut these when I had my annual brug cutting event on the 19th as I REALLY wanted to enjoy the blooms a little longer. I had so few this summer and they are doing great just in time to freeze...(isn't that how it often happens?") !!!!!

The brug here is in the ground. It starts to bloom about 5 minutes before a big freeze. Putting one of these in a pot seems to be the way to go. Your brugs are amazing.

Absolutely gorgeous.

I have the regular white ones and they reseed fairly well. How do get them successfully stacked?

Chickadee, I think you must be thinking of datura. The brugs do not reseed, they are started from cuttings.
