Protecting Sugar Apple From Cold

I have a bearing sugar apple tree in a pot. I live in an area that typically has a few freezes every Winter. This year, I will be out of town for a few months during the Winter. I'm trying to figure out how to protect it while I'm gone. Is there any chance that I can store it in a dark garage with no water, the same way I do plumerias?
