Someone suggested Mexican silktassel (Garrya ovata). I found your post/picture on All Things Plants.

Where did you get your plant? Will it propagate from cutting or seed?

Hi, Kathy! Mine came with the property, so haven't had personal experience with buying or propagating it. But I've heard that seeds can work. The rate of germination, however, is low. Doing cuttings, just from what I've read, tends to be unsuccessful in most cases. There's a couple of native plant nurseries out in the hill country between Bandera and Kerrville that probably have it.

I wonder if they would work from a root devision. some that I have back in the valley have multiple trunks and look like they are sprouting off of roots.

Thanks....I think. lol. I will look up nurseries and get my cousin to drive out there with me. Sounds like a fun trip for this spring.

Medina Garden Nursery in the town of Medina on Hwy. 16 and Natives of Texas also on Hwy. 16 before you get to Kerrville are the two I go to. I try not to come back with too many plants when I go! Those are very tempting places for native plant people like me!I have no seeds for Mexican Silktassel this year...they didn't make any last year. Jill Nokes' book doesn't mention root division, but who knows? I've heard of people transplanting small plants from the wild, although not all survive.
