Can Mondo grass be transplanted in our winter?

PKponder TX(7b)January 5, 2013

I have a large 'woodland garden' in the deeply shaded front yard that I bordered with mondo grass a few years ago. It is ripe for division now. Despite plugging with St Augustine multiple times, the area outside the garden is just too shady for grass to grow well. I want to expand the mondo and the garden all the way to the street and I'm in the mood to do this now while it's cooler and easier to work outside. Do you think the newly planted mondo can survive the possibility of freezing weather?

TIA,
Pam

yes. water lightly every other day until established. If you tug a little and it doesn't come out, then it means it has rooted. adjust watering if wet winter. This is when I transplant mine, as I also prefer to work when cool.

I 2nd Vossner, I had a dead (& cut down) pecan in my yard that was surrounded by Mondo grass, a friend helped me dig it up and she transplanted it during the winter with no problems.
