Are these melons ready for harvesting?

ms_dc(7)August 22, 2012

For the first time, I have planted cantaloupe. But I cannot tell if my melons are ready for harvesting!

I understood that when they were ready for harvesting, the stem would split. These haven't. But they seem big and done growing....

No, I don't think so. They have too much green and when ripe they should be a light yellow. The stem will slip on most muskmelons. Don't harvest until at least half of the stem has pulled away from the melon. I am speaking about the types I have grown, so hope that goes for this one too.

Yes "soonnergrandmom" you right. I totally agree with you. It's too much green and when they become light yellow than we are ready to harvest it.
