What is this shrub/vine?

marti8aFebruary 7, 2012

This is growing where I think a house used to be. I thought it was a shrub, but it could even be a vine, though there are no tendrils on it.

Any ideas? btw, I didn't have anything to measure with so measured my finger when I got home and it was 1-1/2 inch.

Looks like winter jasmine (jasmine nudiflorum, an arching/cascading shrub.

It's called 'winter jasmine' around here. In San Antonio it's a big beautiful swooping evergreen shrub that works great as a hedge if you have the room. They are all up and down my street. I loved playing under the tunnel like branches when I was a little kid. Like the one you pictured it blooms in very early spring if we have some good winter rains.

Thanks! I knew the leaves looked familiar. Too bad it's not a Texas native, it looks nice, and is drought tolerant.
